Description
This is a beautiful piece of art, photographed and hand signed by artist Walt Brown. It has been professionally framed and matted, and measures approx 20" wide by 12" high. The Terra Cotta Army It was in 1974 that Chinese farmers, drilling for water, came across an odd discovery near the multi-million populated city of Xi'an. The farmers reported their find. And the government expanded the excavation. At first the public was excluded, but after ping pong and Richard Nixon opened China to the West, the Warriors as a tourist attraction became evident. As the 20th century drew to a close, Walt Brown visited the Warriors and with "special circumstance" was able to create some of the few "non-governmental" pictures last century of these larger than life terra cotta men; who averaged more than six feet tall at a time most Chinese barely topped five feet in height. The Terra Cotta Warriors are a form of funeral art that was buried with the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, in 210 BC. The Warriors were buried with Emperor Qin, so that he would be protected in his afterlife. Qin was the first "regional" emperor to unify all of China; forming the Qin Dynasty. Giving historical perspective to the thousands of workers creating the 2008 Olympic Ceremonies now, Qin assigned 700,000 men to make his Terra Cotta Army. The Army contains over 8000 terra cotta soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses. Most of this "funeral art" remains buried in three giant pits; awaiting a more advanced science to reduce "open air deterioration" that is fading those exposed to our view now. Dont miss this opportunity to add this RARE piece to your collection.About the Artist....Walt Brown's interest in visual communications extends back a half century. At Arizona State University, where he received a Masters degree in Visual Communications, he was in a select class of five photographers who all went on to award winning visual careers; two of them still headlining national magazines. Walt has received awards in both still and video photography.Walt's work has been in numerous galleries over the years. His Chinese study, including this signed artist proof of the Terra Cotta Army, was composed of eight varied scenes on display at Abreu Gallery, in California.Gallery owner Tom Head selected the group of photos to be shown, and you can see why.
