This is edition number 1 / 4 and is finely framed. Very rarely do these panels come up for sale. At the time these panels were done, very few were available, since the shows of these early ParkeHarrison black and white sepia works nearly sold out often prior to the opening of the exhibition, making this a rather rare offering. Robert ParkeHarrison was working at the time in concert with his wife, Shana, whose name was added to successive works as the collaborating artist with Robert, shortly thereafter.   “The Visitation” as with his other works at the time were created with camera and film, then printed and mounted on a wood panel, while hand applied acrylics, gels and varnishes were then utilized. Now Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison create their images digitally in color and mount them on metal. “The Visitation” is an example not only of  an extremely labor intensive handmade process now abandoned by these artists, but is also an example of processes that are now rare and becoming rarer with the advent of the digital age and the majority of  photographic artists using digital as the primary medium.   A traveling exhibition with  an example of this panel and others originated from the George Eastman House in 2003, or thereabouts, and has been circulated world-wide as a traveling exhibition. This image was also featured in the rare and prized fine-press Platinum Series book entitled “Listening to the Earth” by the prestigious publisher, 21ST Editions. As a price comparison, Robert and Shana ParkHarrison’s new work sells for $20,000-$25,000 to start.   An early 1999 photograph on wood panel, with encostic wax and of the older hand-made process from these artists. Panel is 38 x 45 x 1 ¾  inches and with the frame 42 ¼ x 49 ½ x 3. Signed in pencil on visible attached and varnished label on verso. Item is shipped in wood crate and shipping will be shipped by special art handling courrier. Buyer will be required to pay for insurance as well as calculated shipping and handling.
