Description
A stunning oil painting of a Middle Eastern streetscape by the famed English painter, Edwin Harris, 1856 – 1906. I call it “The Bazaar”, however I’m not sure of its true name. Harris was a member of the Newlyn School, the artist followed a precept of "Truth to Nature." Like the plein-air Barbizon painters, the Newlyn School was comprised of several plein-air painters who settled in the village of Newlyn of Cornwall. In Harris' painting, the detail of this streetscape is quite impressive and captures the essence of what he was envisioning. This painting has enormous charm compared to other Harris paintings of $60,000.00 or more from the well established auction houses. Approximately 21 inches high with frame by 17 inches across with frame. About 15 ¼ inches high by 11 1/2 inches without frame. Certainly museum quality. Originally acquired in Pretoria, South Africa in the early 1970’s.
