Description
For your consideration is the rare original 1985 WARHOL-BASQUIAT "boxing" poster commissioned by Tony Shafrezi gallery This is the original poster from 1985, not a contemporary reproduction. It was acquired from the estate of a artist and collector who attended the New York exhibition in person in 1985.The poster has been professionally framed using thefinest archival museum glass and 8 ply matte.Poster Measures approx. 12"x19" (19"x26" including frame)Poster is in excellent vintage condition. Only obvious flaws would be the two fold creases and tiny pin holes on the corners. Colors are vibrant, no evidence of sunning, fading, yellowing, or foxing.Frame is a high quality 3/4" wood w/ eggshell black finish. At Jean-Michel Basquiat's dealer, Bruno Bischofberger's, suggestion in the early 1980s, Andy Warhol and Basquiat began a series of collaboration paintings. Warhol was inspired by Basquiat's energy and youth and Basquiat had always idolized Warhol. Some of the work from the 1985 exhibition can be seen here http://www.gagosian.com/exhibitions/beverly-hills-2002-05-jean-michel-basquiat-and-andy-waThe New York Time's original review of the exhibition:http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9D02EFD91739F933A1575AC0A963948260Reprints of this poster regularly sell for upwards of $100. This original printing was, of course, an extremely limited edition as it was used primarily to promote the exhibition in 1985. A bulk of these were plastered around New York [as described and shown in the movie Basquiat] and ended up in pretty bad shape as the ones that collectors could grab up for themselves were glued to walls and stapled to poles. Most were altogether destroyed. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS WELCOME! PLEASE CONTACT FOR SHIPPING QUOTE.Check out my other items for more great deals on vintage art!THANKS FOR LOOKING!
